Malaysia Day Celebration 2011

Taken place at Amphitheatre, Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus on 13 September 2011, we, Taylor’s University Symphony Orchestra has once again, celebrated the annual Malaysia Day together with Taylorians !

The celebration kicked off by the performance from Music Club, traditional dances from Dance Club, followed by Speeches from the president of Taylor's University Student Council and our vice chancellor, Professor Hassan as well as prize giving ceremony. It was then continued by our performance of the day: Negaraku & 1 Malaysia theme song in collaboration with Christian Fellowship as the choir!

We’re lucky to have Malaysia renowned composer, arranger and orchestrator, Mr. Ken Hor and his assistant Mr. Max Ooi to orchestrate 1Malaysia theme song specially for us. Also, we’d like to express our gratitude to Ken & Max for guiding and conducting us for this song.

It was quite a rush preparation as we only managed to spend around 3 days in practicing for the song due to hectic schedule of our members and time constraint. Still, we made it in just few days of time! ;)

1 of the highlights of the day would be the duet improvisation by our very own members, Szi Hang the violinist and Eric Kok the tenor saxophonist!

You’d definitely be mesmerized by their solo part when you listen to them at live performance!

Well, this will be the last performance of Szi Hang with us before he’s going to study abroad at UK on the next day after the performance.

A big THANK YOU for his contribution for this club all the while and all the best in your future endeavours!

Feel free to return to the big family of Taylor’s University Symphony Orchestra when you’re back in Malaysia!

Not to forget, thanks to our guest players from Sunway University College, KLPac Symphonic Band & UiTM in making this performance a success!

First, we start with trumpet and trombone duet.

Alto saxophone, trumpet and trombone perform Angry Bird theme song!

Eine kleine Nachtmusik K525 by strings quartet.

At last, we have full orchestra perform two songs which are Hawaii Five-O and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

Taylor’s University Symphony Orchestra (TUSO) offers students an opportunity to perform and express themselves in music. In setting up the band, TUSO also aims to provide students with musical experience and environment to further enhance their music skills as well as to share their passion of music among the members.

TUSO was established in the beginning of 2009, formerly known as Taylor’s Symphonic Band (TSB). The first performance by the band was during the orientation night and had received appreciations from the campus. Growing, TSB had its first concert successfully in the end of 2009; about 300 audiences and 40 players attended the concert.

Later, TSB also made several appearances over the years such as; PAM exhibition 2009, Taylor’s University Drug-free Campaign 2010, Taylor’s University Club & Societies Recruitment Drive 2010, Taylor’s University All Star Orientation Party 2010, French Language Week 2011, and many more.

On January 2011, carrying the name of TUSO, the team held the second concert “Russian Roulette” on April 2011. It was very successful and 1000 audiences applauded and cheered for the team of 50 over players, including strings, brass and woodwinds, during the concert. Many left with a delightful heart.

Hence, TUSO targets to increase the music's ethos in Taylor’s University, Lakeside Campus. We hope that you could support and join us in the near future. Also, we believe that gathering young and talented musicians in the campus to play, perform and share music together, creates the diversity of talents.

In 2009, the time when we are still a small group of musician called Taylor's Symphony Band. After the First "Genesis" Concert, the passion never fate. We then keep moving on. Our Strings started to play as quintet in 2010, while our brass and woodwind were waiting for the arrival of new instruments. More and more players joined us across the time. More and more performances approached. This year, we have managed to form an orchestra and presented to the audience----Russian Roulette-Spin the music, Pull the passion.

GENESIS concert succeed!

In just 1 and the half month time,

so much that we shared,

so much that we've gone through together.

All sort of sour sweet bitter spice,

each of our sweats and saliva used,

the finger scratches and burned lips,

i have to say it is all worth it till the end. :)

It may not be the best concert to other's point of view,

but for such achievement and bond we shared together all the while,

it worth all the tears. :')

21st January 2009, our very first member's drive held in Taylor's PJ Campus has turn out with success. Together, with the power of 40-keens student from TCPJ, we are now an official club in Taylor's College. =)
